Outside the 24-hour customer-service window a WhatsApp message must be an approved template. Create templates by API, standard, carousel with media cards, or limited-time offer, with positional or named placeholders, submit them to Meta for review, and send them with their parameters once approved. The template.status_updated webhook tells you the moment the status changes.

Yes, as long as the customer has messaged you within the last 24 hours. Send type "text" or media to their chat. After the window closes, WhatsApp requires an approved template, which you send as type "template" with its name, language and parameters.
The messaging API sends on WhatsApp Official channels through Meta's Cloud API. Templates exist only on Official channels; unofficial numbers connected by QR code send free text and are worked from the inbox.
Subscribe an endpoint to message.status_updated. Each delivery carries the message id, the chat and the new status: sent, delivered, read or failed, as Meta reports it.
Yes. Hosted WhatsApp onboarding mints a one-time link per tenant; they sign in with Facebook on a page that shows your name, pick the number and enter the PIN. You get the channel id back on your redirect URL, from a poll endpoint, and as a channel.connected webhook.
